Match Report: Launton 4–1 Woodstock
Date: September 1st November
Venue: Away – Launton
After an impressive five-game unbeaten run, Woodstock travelled to Launton in confident spirits, looking to build further momentum. However, despite moments of quality and determination, the visitors fell to a disappointing 4–1 defeat in a performance that never quite reached their usual standards.
First Half
From the first whistle, Woodstock struggled to find their rhythm, starting slowly and allowing Launton to dictate early play. The hosts applied sustained pressure and took the lead inside the opening ten minutes with a well-worked move down the left wing.
As Woodstock looked to respond, Caio and Ricardo both had opportunities to level the score but were unable to find the finishing touch. Moments later, Launton capitalised on another quick counter-attack to make it 2–0 within twenty minutes.
The early setback seemed to spark Woodstock into life. The team began to move the ball more confidently and show greater composure in possession. Their persistence was rewarded when Caio struck the crossbar from distance, with Eduardo reacting quickest to fire home the rebound and reduce the deficit to 2–1.
Woodstock grew into the game and started to apply consistent pressure. Ricardo delivered a dangerous cross which narrowly evaded Eduardo, before further chances fell the visitors’ way, including one disallowed effort for offside. Despite finishing the half strongly, Woodstock went into the interval trailing 2–1.
Second Half
Following a focused half-time team talk, Woodstock returned to the pitch determined to maintain their momentum. The second half, however, proved to be a scrappy affair with numerous challenges and stoppages disrupting play. Launton’s physical approach made it difficult for Woodstock to establish their usual passing rhythm.
Midway through the half, Launton extended their lead to 3–1. Woodstock continued to battle and create chances, with Ricardo coming close after rounding the goalkeeper but being forced too wide to finish. Despite their efforts, the visitors were unable to convert their possession into goals, and Launton struck again late on to make it 4–1.
Full-Time: Launton 4–1 Woodstock
It was a tough result for Woodstock, who will feel disappointed after showing glimpses of their potential but falling short of their recent form. The team displayed commendable determination and fighting spirit but were ultimately undone by a slow start and missed opportunities.
