Match Report: Stonesfield Reserves 0–1 Woodstock Town
Oxfordshire FA Trophy – Second Round
Date: Saturday 8th November 2025
Venue: Stonesfield Recreation Ground
Woodstock Town advanced to the quarter-finals of the Oxfordshire FA Trophy following a hard-fought 1–0 victory away to Stonesfield Reserves.
Prior to kick-off, both teams respectfully observed a minute’s silence in honour of Remembrance Day, paying tribute to those who have served.
From the outset, Woodstock demonstrated intent and composure, controlling possession and dictating the tempo of play. The visitors moved the ball with confidence across the pitch, limiting Stonesfield’s early opportunities and asserting themselves in midfield.
Stonesfield were awarded a couple of free kicks in shooting range, both the result of unnecessary fouls from Woodstock, but neither effort threatened the goal. As the first half progressed, Woodstock began to carve out clearer openings, and their persistence was rewarded when Eduardo capitalised on an error from the Stonesfield goalkeeper to calmly slot home from close range.
The goal reflected Woodstock’s strong first-half performance, and they went into the interval with a deserved 1–0 lead.
The second half proved to be a more challenging affair. Stonesfield emerged with renewed energy, pressing aggressively and forcing Woodstock to defend deeper. The visitors’ play became disjointed at times, with misplaced passes and a lapse in composure allowing Stonesfield to grow into the game.
Despite the pressure, Woodstock continued to pose a threat on the counter-attack. Early in the half, a well-worked move involving several sharp passes released Adam down the flank, whose precise cross found Eduardo. The forward adjusted well to strike a first-time volley, only to see his effort rebound off the top of the crossbar.
As Stonesfield continued to push forward, Woodstock were required to remain disciplined. Goalkeeper Simon produced an excellent save to tip a dangerous shot wide of the post, preserving the narrow advantage.
Woodstock had further opportunities to extend their lead, with Eduardo firing narrowly over and Ricardo coming close with a curling effort that just missed the far post.
When the final whistle sounded, Woodstock’s defensive resilience ensured their 1–0 lead remained intact, securing progression to the quarter-finals of the Oxfordshire FA Trophy.
The club extends its thanks to Stonesfield Reserves for their hospitality and wishes them the very best for the remainder of the season
